Hie yourself to a dictionary, my good fellow. I'm using "effete" as its #1 definition puts it: "Depleted of vitality, force, or effectiveness; exhausted." The Unitarians, e.g., ran out of gas well over a century ago. It's ironic that Doug views Ralph Waldo Emerson as such a cold SOB since Emerson, a onetime Unitarian minister, denounced Unitarianism as "corpse cold" -- hyper-rational at the expense of key emotional and spiritual qualities.

The really dangerous ones do -- the Abrahamic Big Three. BTW, "Good News" is a copyright term of Christianity, Inc., aka "Gospel." Looking at Christianity's two-thousand-year track record, one would have to say what it offers is neither "good" nor "news" at this point.
