My question is what did Lance want "the Left" to do? I agree that not enough attention was given to this strike by the Left. However, what can any Left group do that the strikers could not do for themselves? Of course, various working-class and progressive organizations should build networks among themselves, discuss strategy and tactics. But if what is being suggested is that some Left group should go and impart "consciousness", something like the "divine spark" of God given to Adam in the Sistine Chapel mural, then the LA strikers are better off on their own.

Of course, if people have ideas and means to help the strikers, they should in such cases step forward and make suggestions. If you dont, then just engaging in frenetic activity, darting around with a bunch "Union, Yes" buttons stuck to your ass and babbling like idiots from Monty Python's "Twit of the Year Contest" does more harm than good.
