Thanks Yoshie. I didn't dig far enough into Tim's link. These are
exactly the relevant figures. And they seem to show clearly that the
political significance of church-going is that it's a wash. Only by
taking the extremes and ignoring the middle could Wallis fake a case that
something decisive is going on or needs to be undertaken. It seems that
both parties' currently very different strategies for balancing religion
and secularism are having almost exactly equal success.
