Happy New Year to one and all. I spent mine boozing it up with my ex-girlfriend Olya, her wonderful little boy Vanya and some friends of hers from Belarus in Posmoskovye, trundling through the snow, eating bliny, drinking huge quantities of vodka, watching the New Year's programs on TV and Putin's New Year address (I think one reason I like him so much is how honest he comes across on them -- "things are looking up, but we have many unsolved problems and we have to work hard to solve them. S Novym Godom!"), eating olivier salad and kalmary and singing Leningrad songs at the top of my lungs -- "Bez tebya pizdets!" The best NY I have ever had. fantastic.
