Curtiss and Chuck,

In other words, the autocratic, centralized, homogenous structure/system the neocons feel is needed to keep evil forces/indivduals in check, is the exact structure needed by evil forces to effectively and absolutely wreak havoc -- the Nazi Holocaust. .........

... the more you look into this thinking, the more confused and ludicrous it looks (my words really :)) Diane

Well, I am trying to figure this idea out. How can you delude yourself that a centralized and authoritarian regime is actually a republic, the very model of liberal democracy---these jack-offs keep saying it is?

One idea along the way is a subtle difference between the concept of government and the concept of State. A state is more than an apparatus. It is a concrete presence of authority in daily life. A government is something different, a loosely connect collection of institutions that are the means to public administration.

It might be more palatable (skipping the nazis terminology) to see the Repugnants overhaul of government as an attempt to turn it into a State, the presence of authority in daily life and activities of ordinary people. So far the only real authoritative presence in most people's lives (outside of school) is in the managerial mentality of business with bosses and managers overlording their subordinates. But in regard to schools, going to school is something like a model for living under a State authority, as opposed to being a citizen with access to government through direct advocacy or representation.
