: I disagee. Bill Cosby is an elitist who diminishes
: the devistation caused by the political/economic
: policies
: by government and corporation. In addition and
: ironically
: affirmative action has help to create an intra-racial
: class conflict within the Black community. Cosby is
: merely an expression of the intra-racial class
: conflict.
: Essentially he cannot speak crediably on the condition
: of most Black living in these urban areas. I severely
: doubt that Cosby lives anywhere near the "hood".
:
: WB.

just like michael moore doesn't live in a "middle class" neighborhood at present and, consequently, doesn't know anything about people who live there? don't i hear the far right making this same argument?

cosby is a realist. you don't get where he is in life if you don't have your feet on the ground -- particularly if you are afro-american. who do you think applauded his speech, a bunch of elitists who don't know anything about real life, or what it's like to be afro-american?

if you're really interested in who's splitting the black community, look no further than condi rice, clarence thomas, colon powell, ward connerly, et al. here are examples of those who are creating damage to the black community as well as our nation and the community of nations ... in collusion with the very people who would love to see all of us -- black, white, brown, asian, etc -- (except themselves, of course) right back at the same status we held when the constitution was ratified. or better yet, in their eyes, the 16th century?

cosby is far from perfect. but he gives back to the community. and he cares. i don't see the rogues gallery i just mentioned doing that.

cosby represents a long black tradition of telling it like it is, no frills, no jive and no BUllSHit. of course telling the truth has a tendency to create conflict. should we all follow the norms of the mass media and stay as far away as possible from what is "controversial"?

what cosby is saying people need to hear. and the best you can come up with is that he's an "elitist"? i suppose when a math prof points out to a grad student she/he has made a mistake on a paper the teacher's an "elitist." or when doug points out one of my mistakes when i have the bad judgment to post my opinion of an issue involving economics, doug's being an elitist?

you don't have to answer this question, mr barber, but i'd love to know your personal experience with intra-racial class conflict -- off list or on.
