the criticism of the liberal/left politics, a criticism which has been with us for decades, is that it cares more about groups and its own theories than it does about people. tolerance and respect for the individual just isn't on its menu. it "organizes" grassroots from the outside in, if at all. the liberal/left is very "compassionate" as long as the discussion is about groups rather than specific, everyday individuals.

mike moore, with his man of the people approach and sincere populism, doesn't make this mistake. hence, he recruits people like ms lipscomb by taking their side. the liberal/left has a lot to learn.
