Dear USLAW Supporter:

We are pleased to announce that the Iraq Labor Solidarity Fund established by U.S. Labor Against the War has raised more than $10,000. The first contributions of $5000 to each of the two labor federations in Iraq (the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions of Iraq and Iraq Federation of Trade Unions) are being dispersed this week.

Katharine Harer, Co-President of AFT Local 1493 at the San Mateo County Community College System, and Neal Bisno, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU Local 1199P in Pennsylvania, will travel to Geneva, Switzerland this week to meet with representatives of the Iraqi labor federations, the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions, the International Liaison Committee and other unions and federations from across Europe to press the case for Iraqi labor rights with the International Labor Organization (ILO) of the UN at its annual meeting there. Sister Harer and Brother Bisno will present the IFTU and FCWUI with certificates memorializing these contributions to their important work.

Our work is far from done, however. The needs of the Iraqi labor movement are enormous. We need to continue raising funds to enable them to operate under the difficult conditions they confront today in Iraq. They need computers, office equipment and furniture, and funds to organize and defend Iraqi workers against the military occupation, the invasion of U.S. and other multinational corporations, and their local collaborators.

Given what our government is doing in our name in Iraq, it is incumbent on us to demonstrate that George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, and the neocon cabal that surround them do not speak for us! If you or your organization have not yet made a contribution, please do so today. This is one very concrete manifestation of international solidarity that is within the capacity of the U.S. labor movement to do.

Make your contribution on-line at: https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=1822

or make a check payable to USLAW Iraq Labor Solidarity Fund and send it to USLAW, 1718 M Street, NW, #153, Washington, DC 20036.

Please encourage others to contribute as well. A copy of our fund appeal can be found at: http://uslaboragainstwar.org/article.php?id=4434
