i agree. but that's the problem: things are entrenched. it's a stand off. nothing is going to change the numbers we see now and have been seeing. so, the only thing that will really matter are the marginal voters and even among them, it's the new voters. the traditional swing voters have already made up their minds is my guess. My reading of folks around here is they just don't give a crap about what's going on half a world away so there's no reason to vote anything but their pocketbook (for the more affluent) and/or with their socially conservative inclinations.

I know a few people who are conservatives all around and even they are giving approving nods to nationalized health care plans. But, does this make them want to vote Bush out of office and take a chance on the lib'rool? Not on your life.
