An argument is not confirmed (or even particularly strengthened) by the fact that its proponent is an admirable person, just as an argument is not weakened by the fact that its proponent is an asshole.
Arguments have to stand on their own, independently of the person who makes them.
I have _never_, once, on this list quoted Lenin or Marx as an argument; I've only quoted them when I agreed with the argument independently of who made it.
I don't like ad hominems regardless of which they they are aimed.
