Has anyone read "Gold Warriors," by Sterling and Peggy Seagrave, released by
Verso a few months ago? It covers the systematic Japanese looting of Asia,
and asserts that the US found the buried loot in its secret stashes in the
Philippines, and that the US then took this treasure and deposited it in
slush funds in banks around the world in the several years following the
war. The funds were then used to fund various covert ops and even to prop up
failing currencies.
I'm in the midst of this book and have also ordered the CDs that the
Seagraves put out to accompany it, with a lot of the photographic evidence.
I'm wondering about other people's take on how credible some of this stuff
is? How much do the Seagraves exaggerate or jump to conclusions? And how
much of it is probably every bit as sordid and yet true as we have always
imagined? I am no expert on gold, but I have a hunch that some people on
this list are.
