Microsoft's endless quest to insert itself in every IT related revenue stream (which now includes digitized entertainment product) at the dominant position, a reflection of Gates' goals and preoccupations, may not be psychopathological in the strictest sense but it is something other than healthy. Add to this Microsoft's efforts to not merely beat but discredit, absorb or destroy competition and a true passion play of mental unhealthiness unfolds before you.

======================

Microsoft is legally obliged to maximize shareholder value in a manner consistent with federal and state laws, no?

CB: At U of Mich lawschool they teach the precedent that Henry Ford was sued by his stockholders for trying to keep the price of Ford cars down so the average Joe could buy 'em. Ford lost because a corporation doesn't have eliomosenary (sp) , legal purposes . (But that might be a legend to make Ford look good :>))

Speaking of psychopathological (meglo-maniacal), Henry Ford had a picture of Hitler on the wall in his office.

However, myself, I don't have a Big Man theory of history, including bourgeois history.
