[lbo-talk] "Race" in Russia

This article, like a lot of writing that talks about American racism comparitively, fails to recognize that American racism is a combination of both biological, cultural, and economic hatred. Black people especially have never simply been hated or oppressed because of skin color, and I would argue that for the majority of the time, "race" has had little to do with it, but an aversion and fear of our ways of being in the world was equally part of the problem if not more so.

Race is just a signifier for ideology, religion, economics, culture, and a whole bunch of other stuff that white folks didn't like about us. Skin color had nothing to do with it.
