Stop the Stop the War Coalition!

Why the Anti-War Movement Needs Saving from Itself

I was an activist in the Stop the War Coalition. I marched with them. I went to their meetings. I canvassed on their behalf. But during my time with the StW Coalition I saw disturbing things about its aims and the way it was run. I saw the legitimate concerns of the British population about a war fought on dubious grounds being hijacked by a small clique of political extremists and religious fundamentalists.

This site explains just what's wrong with the Stop the War Coalition, and how to build alternatives.

The website is divided into a series of essays, which are intended to be read in sequence. Part One accounts my own involvement in the Stop the War Coalition, so as to place the issue in a personal context. Part Two describes how the anti-war concerns of the British people were hijacked by left-wing extremists and right-wing Islamic fundamentalists. Part Three discusses the Stop the War Coalition's involvement in the issue of Palestine. In Part Four, I offer a critique of the Coalition's "End the Occupation" campaign. Finally, in Part Five, I suggest alternatives to the approach of the Stop the War Coalition.
