Urgent Call More information on Rafah WaSH Crisis

Rafah City, Rafah Camp, and Tal Al Sultan Camp

Following to our urgent call for Rafah crisis today, accompanied are more details about destruction in this area which included:

1. Partial destruction of four domestic ground water wells, and therfore abstraction of water now is coming from only two wells in the west of Rafah City instead of six wells during the normal situation. Communications, electricity and water are completely cut off from Rafah Governorate.

2. The wall surrounding local health center was completely damaged with all infrastructure for the center, this included water and wastewater networks in addition to electricity network.

3. Complete destruction of water and wastewater networks in Canada neighborhood in addition to damaging almost all roof tanks.

4. Partial destruction of the wastewater pumping station in Tal Al Sultan Camp and the complete destruction of the water network and all roof tanks in the camp.

5. The municipality and the maintenances team are not able to reach the wastewater pumping station in Block O, and because of the current situation they are not able to get any information about the station and damages in that area.

6. Complete destruction of the water and wastewater networks in Al Barazil and Al Salam areas this morning and these actions are still going on until the hour of preparing this flash.

7. Complete destruction of the main water and wastewater lines in Rafah Camp.

8. Complete destruction of the main water lines for al Jinenah area located in the northeastern part of Rafah City this morning, and these actions are still going on by the Israeli bulldozers until this minute. These actions are causing the flow of water and wastewater in the streets that is an alarm for possible health and environmental crisis in the area. Municipality teams are not able to reach neither Rafah city nor Rafah camp to assess the actual situation, which is worsening hour after hour.

9. Municipality Reservoir section is completely closed and its maintenance team is not able to reach it, and all attempts by the municipality and arrangements for the team to reach this area and the wells, to stop the water flow, failed. Right now, the municipality is making a great effort to make the necessary arrangements to try and reach the four municipal wells in Tal Al Sultan area to assess the damages, in addition, the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) is also doing a great effort to make arrangements for emergency supply of five water tankers to Tal Al Sultan Camp.

10. More than 70% of Rafah Governorate are suffering from complete cut off of water, electricity and communications, this is in addition to the possible environmental and health crisis. They are also in great need for support during the emergency situation going through.

11. The main source of this information is Khan Younis Municipality, Rafah Municipality, UNRWA clinic and Palestinian Red Crescent in Rafah Camp.
