"... the third-party thing is primarily about middle-class people satisfying their own desires, rather than putting their resources at the service of the people who are the most down-trodden by the system."

how does that differ, in essence, from the every-four-years concern for poverty on the part of middle class people of the, um, left, who are hardly putting their-our resources at the service of the most down-trodden, whether every day, or even simply on election day ? is voting for a democrat every four years some form of revolutionary social work?

this concern for the poor is sincere, but seriously confused and short term when it mainly occurs at election time...like people having hissy fits because the election system short changes poor folks, as though that same system treats them with kid gloves the other 364 days of the year...the polling place has shitty equipment, but the projects have, of course, luxury accommodations, great schools, wonderfully paying jobs , safe streets and happy, harmonious families...which miniscule sector of the middle class left has its collective head in the clouds, and which up its ass? six of one, half a dozen of the other?

it may well be that there are too many adventurists and fantasists among the affluent third party people, but there are far, far more - unfortunately - of those groups in what passes for the left wing in american politics...in fact, who the hell is on "the left", save for middle and upper middle class people who can afford to plan, organize and attend demos, and theorize their/our asses off...until compromise time on election day...and then back to, maybe, planning, marching and kvetching...

sure, nader, greens, environmentalists, health food advocates and sectarians are really what's wrong with this fucking country...

yeah, right...
