Most Americans don't care about foreign issues, much to the frequent frustration of the imperial elite. The American left, or a sizeable chunk of it, cares mostly about foreign policy issues. I remember having a discussion with someone I like and even admire about 10 years ago, a veteran socialist intellectual/activist - she was more familiar with Bosnian politics than the NYC council, despite having lived for years in NYC.
