----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug Henwood" <dhenwood at panix.com> -Lots of people may be with us on the issues, but they don't vote that -way. Their higher cerebral functions say they're for national health -insurance and internationalism; their ids vote for Bush.

They also vote against expanding health insurance even in a solid blue state like California. Prop 72 was put on the ballot by the Chamber of Commerce in California to repeal the law passed in Davis's last days, which required all businesses with 50 or more employees to provide health care insurance or pay a fee to the state to provide insurance for them.

Prop 72 passed after a media barrage of its threat to jobs in the state.

It's not that any of these issues are unsaleable to the American public, but it's tough in the present corporate propaganda barrage. Those who refuses to recognize that a lot of other folks are acting in good faith to promote these policies are just refusing to deal with the complications involved.
