I think things changed a bit since then. They are quite involved in politics, human rights etc. and quite welcoming of people from different walks of life, pagans, Wiccans, Jews, Buddhist, gays, lesbians, enviros and what not. Check their web site http://www.uua.org/. I think they are someone to learn form in developing the "progressive narrative" to counterbalance the fundamentalist/free market spiel.
