Two good Marxist movies are playing in New York on Monday, November 29th.
La Terra Trema:
Funded by The Communist Party, Visconti's film is the tale of a fisherman destroyed by market forces. It plays at BAM Cinematek at 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Part of a complete Visconti retrosepctive through December 16th, I saw Ludwig last night and it contains a cinematic representation of the dialectic that is amazing. I can only think of Ozu as a director who equals Visconti in being able to portray the material consequences of living in the world.

The films will be travelling so they might come to a theater near you.
FORCE OF EVIL by Abraham Polonsky
At Film Form -- Polonsky's first film (and last film before being blacklisted), it shows what a great talent we lost. Also, one of John Garfield's best performance. At: 1:05, 4:35, 8:05
