This just in from Ballot Access News edited by Richard Winger:

2004 Petitioning/Ballot Status for President updated September 13, 2004

TOTAL STATES ON Green 28 Nader 34

HIGHEST POTENTIAL*** Green 30 Nader 42

***"Potential" means the number of states the candidate would be on, if everything now in doubt is settled advantageously to that candidate.

The "safe states"/"smart growth" strategy does not "grow the Greens." The Green Party in 2004 will have its presidential candidate on fewer ballots and will receive fewer votes for its candidate than the Green Party did in 2000.

I wish the Green Party had decided to exploit Nader/Camejo's potential to the fullest, ready to sign up as many people who attend Nader/Camejo events as possible for the Green Party (nearly 500 Nader supporters showed up at Nader's campaign stop at Ohio University), regardless of what some Greens feel about Nader's personality. -- Yoshie
