I'm cheered!

I'm throwing a horriblecane party this weekend. There are people here in Tampa who _still_ don't have power and water, and we didn't get hit by anything more than lots of rain (in specific areas) and 70 mph gusts/50 mph sustained. I can't even imagine what will happen when these places get hit with 100 mph + winds. The peninsula of PIEnellas co. where I live will be an island, no doubt!
The cashier at Walmart told me that she's never used her credit card so much in her life as she's had to this past month. I have several friends who reported that, for Charley, a lot of people couldn't prepare because they simply had no money. They weren't given time off and they didn't get a paycheck 'til Thu or Fri. by the time they got to the stores, there was nothing left. Another friend who delivered pizzas the days we dodged the bullet said that business was stronger than it is during the SuperBowl or the Final Four. People were hungry, no food in the house since nothing was in the stores to buy. The only places that were open were pizza joints. Apparently, they kept pumping out pies 'til they ran out of dough.
I mentioned to Paul, offlist, that the national news hasn't covered the migrant workers and really poor folks who've been hit hard in PUnta Gorda and Central, FL --which is where the food is mainly grown.
Ian's made Seattle sound awfully good. My partner would be pleased with that choice. I can handle rain! :)
