[lbo-talk] Sidelining Blacks, Losing Elections

Meanwhile, back in the real world, a mostly union effort registered 100,000 new voters in Philadelphia last year, which is what gave John Street his surprisingly wide margin of victory in an election where the polls were super-tight and even pointing toward a Katz victory. Street was not exactly popular, but the black masses of Philadelphia, once contacted and mobilized by enough skilled organizers, knew who the real enemy was and prevented Karl Rove's evil surrogate from becoming Philly mayor. If this fact alone were the only good news out there (and it isn't), I would still be pretty optimistic about the possibility of winning Pennsylvania this year despite how close the polls are in this state.

There are a legion of turf wars between and among the various 527s, and unlike know-nothing know-it-alls and Nader's Traitors, I don't pretend to understand what they all are. Nor -- if I did know -- would I be interested in sharing any such information with people who have objectively sided with the enemy. The main fact is that the 527s and similar extra-party efforts are carrying out their activities apart from the Democratic Party proper, and in some cases have scored success. Apart from mouth- breathing, vapid, infantile ultraleftist children -- and the singular figure of Ralph Nader, who deserves to have his fingernails plucked out and then then the rest of his body drowned in a vat of boiling water -- most people recognize this as a step towards political independence on the part of progressives. People who live in the real world will do what they can to make this process last past the election.

To sum up, then, I am interested in reading and hearing thoughtful critiques of this whole process from people who are actually on our side, but not when they emanate from people who are working to get Bush elected.

People of the US, unite and defeat the Bush regime and all its running dogs!
