I think many lawyers would nominate Justice Scalia as the preeminent Jesuitical sophist, particularly in the public sphere. Many of his opinions feature the rankest, how-many-angels-can-dance-on-the-head-of-a-pin, Jesuitical sophistry. One example that comes up frequently in my practice is St. Mary's Honor Center, et al. v. Hicks, 509 U.S. 502 (1993), but there are many others.
