This phrase is to individualist carpers what "petty bourgeois individualism" was to the more jargon-hungry memers of third-international parties. Its use pretty much discredits any argument in which it appears, since it tends to indicate that the writer is letting his/her cliches do the thinking for him/her.
There is a rather wide spread of viewpoints on the list CD refers to so coyly, including some mindless phrase-slingers, whose style reminds me very much of Chris's usual style. The list also includes quite a few subscribers who are _much_ more precise and honest in their word choice than Chris usually is.
