GM crops appears to be a problem (if it's a problem ) for agriculture in few economies. US accounts for 59% of the area under GM crops, followed by Argentina in second place with 20 percent, followed by Canada and Brazil with 6 percent each, China 5 percent, Paraguay 2 percent and South Africa 1 percent.

GM crops (GM cotton really) are peripheral to Indian agriculture. About a million acres were cultivated with GM cotton in 2003. The total cultivated area is about 20 million acres for cotton and about 350 million acres for all crops.
