Actually Jesus is New Testament, although Robinson's desire for a old fashioned smiting is more Old Testament-ish. If he had prayed for the annihilation of the whole Venezuelan nation, the pillaging of their oil, gold and oxen followed with then the salting of the earth, he'd be right in line with the OT stories. Does sounds kind of like US foreign policy when you think about it.
Or to paraphrase 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' ; earth had been going downhill for 2000 years ever since a bearded stranger told people the world would be a better place if everyone would just be nicer to one another and he was nailed to a tree for his trouble.
