That mean possessiveness is so through post 60's eyes. The point of
Guthrie's song is mainly that it's "our" land, not the capitalist's
land. That the land is held in common. The lyrics to Berlin's song are
well suited to a nation of sheep. (And I love Berlin's music/lyrics in
general.)
