That 80% of the Wehrmacht was fighting a losing battle on the Eastern Front at the time of D-Day might indicate something about who the Nazis viewed as the major threat.

The contribution of the Red Air Force to the winning of The War is frequently overlooked. The Soviet air forces destroyed much of the Luftwaffe, and achieved total air superiority over the Eastern Front. Of course, the British and American bombing of the German synthetic fuel plants beginning in May, 1944 contributed significantly to the German collapse on the Eastern Front. Perhaps it is time to put aside the Cold War chest-thumping and agree that it was an Allied effort that crushed the Nazis. Well, that and the colossal sutpidity of the Nazis themselves.
