Wait. The Minutemen did a cover of a Steely Dan song (Dr. Wu) and they CERTAINLY didn't suck.
And Sonic Youth... well, I don't know if they actually covered a Carpenters' song, but "Song for Karen" was certainly pretty genuinely sympathetic.
