That would be 'Nu Metal'.
Inspired by rap's ultra thug division and over-clocked metal stylings bands like Linkin Park find novel ways to have an excuse to see the throat specialist.
Nu Metal shouldn't be confused with 'screamo' which is the heavier incarnation of already sorta heavy emo, a form of music built mostly around the subject of how terrible your relationship is.
So terrible apparently, you need some serious ass decibel output to communicate the full scope of the problem.
