There is a subtle difference, at least in JK Galbraith's original formulation of the term "conventional wisdom". Common sense refers to things that everyone believes for a variety of reasons, but "conventional wisdom" refers specifically to things which anyone who wants to be taken seriously has to either believe or claim to believe because it would be to the financial disadvantage of rich men if they didn't.
