China's foreign trade volume doubles
Customs General Administration released the report on China's import and export trade in 2004 on January 11. According to the statistics, the total volume of China's foreign trade in 2004 reached a record high of 1.15474 trillion US dollars, up 35.7 per cent over the year before, or 2.3 times over 2001. In another word, the total foreign trade volume of China was more than doubled in the past three years since China's entry into WTO.
Both the import and export volume topped 500 billion US dollars in 2004, among which the export volume took up 593.36 billion US dollars, or up 35.4 per cent, and the import volume registered 561.36 billion US dollars, or up 36 per cent with an annual trade surplus of 31.98 billion US dollars.
