Nurses on strike don't ask patients -- particularly those in life-or-death situations -- not to cross picketlines. Similarly, many Justice for Janitors (J for J) strikes do not put a premium on people not crossing picketlines, since keeping people from going to work is much less important than causing disruption generally. It is a tactical question -- but one for the workers to decide, and not for individuals to break simply because they find it convenient.

The key issue under discussion is when workers make a clear request that people not cross. In those cases, you do not cross.
