Okay, fair enough and there are remains in various locations, of course. But it's far weaker everywhere, even at the local level, and non-existent on the national basis.
Which in some ways is arguably a loss, since the local machines, however crude, were often more populist than the corporate money lobbyists of various stripes that influence the independent operator consultants of today.
