Come on guys. This is a question of semantics and given that one of the philosophical roots of anarchism is nominalism, I cant believe that this is an important discussion. In other words, there is no definition of "Left" written in heaven, so therefore it seems useless to argue whether anarchism belongs in the Left wing tradition or not. If essential to your definition of the "left" is that the state is needed to bring about progressive change, then anarchism is not leftist. If your definition of left is any current that tries to bring about progressive change, then it is definitely part of the left.
The debate should be about the role of the state, not whether anarchism belongs in the left tradition or not. Of what possible use could this latter discussion be?
