yeah. My father is 77, i'm 29, and when he retired he was sucked into the
Limbaugh vacuum, but my sister and I can't figure out the issue he is
conservative on. It seems to be a business/libertarian oriented thing, plus
the race-baiting anecdotes about reverse racism that Limbaugh dwells on,
because he started reading Ayn Rand, I suppose replacing all these other
philosophy books on his shelf from the 60s when he was in the antivietnam
war movement and read Bertrand Russell, voting for Mondale (for instance he
has this book, which seems awfully convergent with some contemporary
anarchist thought even though he was an upper class mathematician ). He's
not pro-intervention, or christian, or rich, or antiabortion, but a lot of
what fills those radio shows is stuff about freedom and local control, and
for instance, they'll take the anecdote of the day about an 11 yr old girl
suspended for doing cartwheels at school, and they'll blame authoritarian
liberals, while at a liberal blog they will blame all the zero-tolerance
rules and 'no child left behind'. Although, I realize that most
conservatives aren't just populists who are confused about the issues.
Anyway, I was searching the Free Republic for their plans for the March 19th protests. Some of their brainstorming is really funny, such as plans to 'freak out the squares' by getting the blue angels to fly over a march to offend them, or one guy suggests setting up their pickup with large TVs and loudspeakers playing Colin Powell's speech to the UN, and someone else was inviting people to get into his '69 VW van and hang out the windows calling people moonbats or trying to outdebate the liberals, or streaking. But conversation *inevitably* returns to running people over with trucks, or caterpillar tractors- which is sort of a problem because this actually happened in several cases in March 2003. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/875051/posts

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1363744/posts Their conversation would make you think there would be lots of counterprotesters, but there are always about two dozen in some big cities, who are mostly protest warriors, so even though they call the liberals losers for spending Saturday morning, the keyboarders likely are in a rest home somewhere.
