A point I've made for years when pointing out how silly it was to talk about "the Democratic Party" does X or it does Y. There are a few reasons for this, although the simplest is that corporate forces have a pretty undifferentiated control of the GOP, while a much more diverse set of monied and grassroots forces contend for control of Democratic legislators. Which means that Dems aren't guaranteed to do the right thing, but there is a fighting chance of influencing them with grassroots mobilization. Which is the reason why having Dems in power is better.
