Quite untrue. There are legal remedies, e.g., declarations of emancipated minors, children who have "divorced" their parents, adoptions, court terminations.

So if it's against your opinion to have a spouse "own" their spouse, it's perfectly ok in your opinion for parents to "own" their children past the age of majority?
