andie nachgeborenen:

If we want to live like hunter-gatherers.

Of course if we want schools, roads, trains, computers, mail, scientific health care, pensions, Greenwich Village, Broadway, jazz, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Cubs, etc., we will need a state --

^^^^ CB: No , the state is only necessary to secure that one class of people is able to exploit other classes, not for schools, roads, computers, mail, etc. For those only administration and organization are needed.

The state is standing bodies of armed personnel, prisons and other repressive apparatus. ^^^^^

someone (hopefully) democratic body to make and enforce decisions about allocations of resources, collect taxes to subsidize the things that people won't do on their own. Plus have the resudual monopoly

on force to deal with crime, be the ultimate backup to enforce legislative, administrative, and court decisions.

^^^^^^ CB: No, humans are naturally capable of cooperating in living. For the rare exceptions, a full-blown state apparatus won't be necessary. Crime is caused by material lack.

^^^^

We may face a catastrophe that will knock us back to the level of a stateless society. I think it is the duty of socialists to fight to make sure that doesn't happen.

^^^^ CB: No , the duty of socialists is to work for the abolition of exploiting classes, and then get rid of police, armies, wars and the practices of states.
