A task force of the *Council on Foreign Relations* has now issued a formal report, "Building a North American Community", establishing a common security perimeter for the US, Canada and Mexico enforced with a North American Border Pass which would include biometric identifiers, plus measures to integrate the continent's economic structures, including the building of an infrastructure to connect Mexico's south to the "market of the North".

If that doesn't work, it's by Tim Weiner in today's paper. The US Air Foce wants to move in the direction of fielding space weapons. The article contains amazing examples of Newspeak. One of the weapons systems discussed is "Rods From God", cylinders made of heavy metals like *uranium* which would be hurled at the ground from space, striking at 7200 mph with the force of a small nuke. The commander of the Space Command, one of the military officers mentioned in the piece, is General *Lance Lord* (i can see him holding a rod from god, or is it a lance?) And for its part, the NY Times contributed some Newspeak, talking of how the new direction would replace a '96 Clinton policy that emphasized a more "pacific" use of space, including "spy satellites' support for *military* operations,..". Some "pacifism". In fact, already in '97, while Clinton was just starting term II, the US Space Command posted at its site a statement about Mission 2020, discussing the need for the US to control space to maintain its dominance down here, just like the British empire controlled the seas, especially given the anticipated wider gap between haves and have-nots due to globalization. (google "Bruce Gagnon" for lots of good info on all this)
