This is precisely an example of being stuck in the past and the lack of a vision for the future that I have been ranting about for some time. UAW was instrumental in the SUV revolution (Keith Bradsher, _High and Mighty_) which is a sad example of the reactionary role of organized labor in this country.

Honestly, I do not see any new ideas coming out of these quarters. For some time I thought that Labor Party would go somewhere, but it flopped and is practically never heard of again. My ex used to work as an organizer for UNITE and was telling me horror stories about their attempt to cooperate with UAW "dinosaurs" - it was like a re-enactment of the Archie Bunker show.

Frankly, I think organized labor in this country is practically extinct and living in the past on the borrowed time. Sad, but true.
