No, I'm afraid she's going to take on some serious Berkeley silliness, which will absolutely ruin her as a political symbol. Doug

Now wait a minute. What Berkeley silliness? You mean easy living, no hassle shopping, walking distance to everything? Besides this is a great working class place to live---or it was until the rents got too high. Great bike rides in the hills, local bouldering area, a climbing gym, ocean fishing, low life race track, a couple of breweries, auto mechanics on every block. It's not all brie, chardonnay and volvos... maybe thirteen independent book stores two big libraries, a couple of museums, a recording studio (fantasy records), some of the best retail music stores around---the cops are reasonable, the schools are fine, there's enough weirdos to make anybody feel at home---what the fuck to you want?
Oh, yeah and bbq places: E&J, Flints, Korean, Japanese, Thai---forget the names. But the secret best place is actually Doug's on San Pablo (around 36th St) in Oakland (2.80miles away) with tangy potato salad, deep fried whole turkeys, etc. Doug's is a lot hotter and more smoky than either E&J or Flints.
I thought she was from Fairfield, but if Mike says, Vallejo, that's practically the same---some alienating suburb in the middle of nowhere with nothing out there but strip malls and cheesy franchises. So now Frank says Vacaville. Shit. Truck stop condos on the interstate. No wonder she wants to move. Getting down with the bigots at Denny's? Fuck that.
Hey Cindy, welcome to Berkeley. You'll feel right at home. And a fair number of Democrats around here are practically Communists---according to the rest of the country.
Where's she supposed to live? Kansas City or New York?
Peacenow pipes in:
``As a mother, i was able to include my child in most of the activism we participated in. Too often, child free activists dislike or ignore kids...''
Which reminds me, Berkeley is a great place for kids too, even if a lot of the white middle class don't realize it. Big variety of day care, early child development, after school, summer programs, blah, blah, blah---from the school district and city. And it's also a great place for seniors---for much the same reason that there are enough accommodations, housing, and support programs located here.
Listen Berkeley is a very cool place to live. No it ain't NYC. But I can walk (10mins) to work or walk over to BART and be in downtown SF in about twenty minutes. Or in the other direction I am about three and half hour drive to Yosemite.
And here is the best part. I can go weeks on end working, seeing people in the shop or driving out to their places and never once see a fucking Republican. I only see them on tv where I can use the mute button--now that I have a `modern' tv...
Oh, and there's a good movie rental place two blocks down the street.
