Michael Pug,

You have to be careful with the black metal stuff you mentioned in the quote. Unfortunately there is an underground "NSBM" scene -- Nat'l Socialist Black Metal. Even bands thata ren't straight-up NSBM will toy with NSBM influences (Darkthrone's "Panzerfaust" for ex.) Sounds like a joke but NSBM is actually fairly pervasive, esp. in Europe. It's disguised as a pagan revolt against Christianity but they throw anti-semitism and Nazi imagery into the mix. Ironically very popular in Mexico. Heh.

Some of the more severe styles of rock music, such as the darkest and most nihilistic forms of heavy metal (so-called "black metal" and "death metal"), are sometimes referred to in countercultural circles as "aesthetic" or "poetic terrorism," artistic styles designed to achieve through appeals to artistic taste what conventional terrorism hopes to achieve through political violence.
