Thailand's exports likely to grow 20% as targeted

The Industrial Economics Office's Director-General Chutaporn Lambasara on Wednesday expressed confidence that the country's exports would grow 20 percent to surpass 100 billion US dollars for the whole of this year, reported the Thai News Agency Thursday.

The growth is boosted by the increased shipment of automobiles and parts, and electronics, the director-general said.

She said a recent study on "Structure of Export and Import of Industrial Products" found that the post-crisis exports had annually expanded by 8 percent on average.

The exports reached 97.7 billion US dollars last year and were expected to surge by 20 percent to 113.36 billion US dollars for this year.

Most imports are capital goods, fuel and raw materials, which are vital for the development of the country. They represent 80 percent of the total imports.
