Dear YASJ members:

Yale has a terrific new feminist publication that needs your support! In the spring, the premiere issue of MANIFESTA was published. Sarah Stillman, now a Yale senior, is the Editor-in-Chief; Jessica Gusberg, now a Yale senior, is the Executive Editor. Both are active in Yale's Social Justice Network.

MANIFESTA's inaugural issue focuses on Women and War. It includes an interview with feminist playwright Eve Ensler, a letter to young feminists about militarism by Cynthia Enloe, an article on the infamous School of the Americas, an article on sexual violence within the U.S. armed forces, and an article on Korean "comfort women," as well as book reviews, photographs, and artwork. Some of the contributors to MANIFESTA are Yale undergraduates and some aren't. The quality of MANIFESTA is impressive. Not impressive "for a student periodical." Just impressive with no qualifications.

The editors of MANIFESTA hope to put out two more issues this academic year: one on Gender and Globalization and one on Women and Criminal Justice. They are seeking articles, poems, photos, art, and other editorial contributions. You can send queries to sarah.stillman at yale.edu or to jessica.gusberg at yale.edu

There is more information on the MANIFESTA website at <http://www.manifestajournal.org>.

MANIFESTA also needs your money!!! You can subscribe for two issues a year at a cost of $20 for an individual in the U.S., $10 for a student or a person in financial need, and $50 for an individual overseas. Send checks payable to YALE MANIFESTA at P.O. Box 204279 Yale Station, New Haven, CT 06520. For credit card orders, check the website at <http://www.manifestajournal.org>.

And, beyond subscribing, financial contributions to MANIFESTA would surely help this bold, exciting journal created and run by Yale undergraduate activists.
