-France had the lowest rate of union density in the advanced capitalist -countries - about 9% of the workforce, even lower than in the US. -Anyone know how the French unions survive on such low memberships? Am I -right in assuming the employers are required by law to checkoff dues from -all employees - union members and non-members alike?
Oddly, France despite its pro-union reputation bans closed shops like the US and bans any union from negotiating mandatory union dues for all employees -- essentially the whole country is like "right to work" states in the US.
