Mitch:
Largely under the radar? Even with a GPS, you couldn't find this campaign's trail. Gloria Mattera, the Green candidate for Brooklyn beep, is getting heard because she's targeting that hideous Ratner-Nets development on Atlantic Avenue and tarring Smilin' Marty Markowitz for abetting the project. Good for Gloria. She's taking existing anger and existing awareness and giving it something of an electoral face. But, seriously Mitch, what "awareness" is Gronowicz raising?. I wasn't even aware he was running until you posted this piece.
As I kid I remember the septuagenarian Socialist Labor Party volunteer in my neighborhood giving out the identical flyers used in Daniel DeLeon's day. With a Thomas Nast cartoon of the Democrats and Republicans as Tweedle-Dee, Tweedle-Dum, and a boilerplate call not to vote the bosses' parties. I'm all for using the ballot box (as long as it isn't Diebolt's) to do radical politics, where it makes sense and is a reflection of something, which Gloria's is (at least if you squint and keep your fingers crossed) But Tony's isn't a race. It's as crawl.
