This is a link to a piece on the battle over municipal wi-fi services in the US (e.g. one proposed by Philadelphia and SF) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4351400.stm

The monopoly capital is going bananas fearing loss of profits, but the support is strong. This issue offers an excellent opportunity for mobilizing software engineers and "computer geeks" for the left.
