British MP George Galloway opens up to Syria Times Exclusive interview by Mohammad Agha – Editor-in-Chief

7-8-2005‏ ‏ [August 07 2005]

summary: Syria the last castle of Arab dignity and Arab rights‏ ‏ The US can control the skies, but not a single Arab street‏ ‏ The Americans guarded by the British killed thousands of people in Falluja‏ ‏ Lebanon should not be allowed to be used as a knife in Syria`s back‏ ‏

‏Editor`s remark: A day before this interview was made (31st of Jluy), Mr. Galloway delivered a lecture at al-Assad Library on " Justice in the New World Order!".‏ ‏

‏*Mr. George Galloway, first of all, we`d like to express our appreciation for your honest and honourable attitudes as a friend and supporter of just causes of the Arab people and of all peoples in the world and as a freedom fighter , as a type and example to follow not only as individual.‏ ‏

--Thank you. I have the honour to be described as a freedom fighter. In my latest book which is called " I`m Not the Only One", I dedicated the book to each and every underdog soldier in the night; and this is a dedication to the freedom fighters of the poor, who are soldiers in the night fighting for every one. ‏ ‏

- Something I want to talk about as you started your visit to Damascus with a lecture on " Justice in the new world order" , do you think there is something called justice in the new order or any other order regardless if it is new or old?‏ ‏

-- Fairly enough I began my talk by saying it could be a short talk and because if the subject is justice in the world order there is a precious little justice. And it is not going to change any time soon . I believe that there was more justice in the immediately past world because there was more balance in the world. There were restraints on the activities of the super powers, because of the existence of other superpowers…Because there was a need to weigh the consequences of moves and actions which had to take account of the existence of other superpowers in the world. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the socialist bloc, there`s been one power in the world. So, all are extreme and this has been big part of the current problem we have today. ‏ ‏

In the past, the United States could not invade Cuba; they could not explode the nuclear bomb over North Korea during the Korean war; they could not invade China during the Korean war not because the military wanted peace but because there were other deterrent powers in the world. So, now we have a United Nations which is completely weak, a thieves` kitchen. The thieves make the decisions and the beggars are expected to vote for the decisions in exchange for some crumbs from the table , from the kitchen table. And if the beggars refuse as in Yugoslavia and Iraq, the thieves would just step outside and make the decisions any way. So, the UN has become virtually defunct. It is completely hostage to American power and if America doesn`t get its way it clearly shows its wish to use military force declaring the war , changing the regimes and turning the world upside down! So, there`s not much justice in the world but there are many who want justice. And that`s where I think we come in. ‏ ‏
